This relatively uncommon disease results from failure of the adrenal glands to secrete adequate hormones. Adrenal hormones come in 3 types: salt retaining; glucocorticoids and androgens. Lack of these hormones can lead to fatal dehydration and collapse. However with appropriate diagnosis and treatment patients can live normal lives. President Kennedy is our most famous American example.
