Excessive facial hair or acne

Excessive acne (in women and teenage girls):

This problem may result from disordered sex hormonal balance as outlined under male pattern balding. Certain patients have a relatively common inherited disorder of their adrenal glands (congenital adrenal hyperplasia or CAH) as the cause. Treatments are aimed at treating the specific causes coupled with therapies to improve the resulting clinical problem.

Excessive hair (hirsutism):

The problem can be a troubling affliction which can result in an unnecessary loss of confidence. As for excessive acne and male pattern balding, hirsutism is often the result of sex hormone imbalance or excessive sensitivity to androgens (male like hormones). This problem often accompanies metabolic (insulin resistance) syndrome as part of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Treatments are tailored to the underlying cause coupled with treatments to reduce hair directly.
